Chromebooks
Chromebook Checkout Policy
Chromebooks are laptops that only use Google Chrome as their browser and operating system, and they are fast, secure and simple to use. All of the Chromebook operations take place using the Chrome web browser and web applications either through a user’s free Google account or in a “guest” mode – for those without Google accounts. Chromebooks are available for checkout at all our branch libraries.
Chromebooks may be checked out by adults 18+ with valid Lonesome Pine Regional Library card and current government issued photo ID. Card must have less than $25 in outstanding fines/fees or acceptable payment plan in place.
Chromebooks are checked out for 14 days and can be renewed one time. Checkouts are limited to one device per household. Chromebooks cannot be returned in the book drop and must be returned to the branch where it was checked out.
You may not install or download software or save files on library Chromebooks. All files must be saved to an online account or your own device.
Prior to check-in, the borrower must sign out of any Google account used on the Chromebook. This is a security measure to protect the borrower.
By checking out a library Chromebook, you agree to follow the Library Internet Use Policy. The library is not responsible for any loss of personal information/data or identify fraud that may result from using a library Chromebook.
Chromebooks are checked out in a case that includes the Chromebook and a charger. Patrons are responsible for costs associated with loss or damage of the Chromebook and/or chargers and cases. The overdue fines for a Chromebook is $1 per day not to exceed the cost of the device.
If individual parts of the kit are lost or damaged, the following replacement costs will be the responsibility of the borrower.
Chromebook replacement fee: $300
Charger: $25
Case: $20
If the Chromebook kit is lost or damaged, please immediately contact the location where you checked it out.
Funding for this project is allocated from the COVID CARES Act through the Institute of Museum and Library Services and administered by the Library of Virginia
